Colony Theatre

If esperanza is the Spanish word for hope, then bassist, vocalist and composer Esperanza Spalding could not have been given a more fitting name at birth. Blessed with an uncanny instrumental chops, a multilingual voice that is part angel and part siren, the 23-year-old prodigy turned pro might well be hope for the future of jazz and instrumental music. Portland-bred Spalding is a graduate of the Berklee School of Music in Boston, and now serves as their youngest faculty member ever. She has recently released a new album, and tours with her band nationally and internationally.
