Accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the Exploration Station Pre-School is one of the only science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)–focused pre-schools in Miami-Dade County. Located at MDC’s North Campus and operated by the College’s InterAmerican Campus faculty and staff, the state-of-the art school features a child-centered environment that stimulates learning based on each child’s unique interests – blending sensory exploration and hands-on experience.
In addition to a traditional pre-school curriculum and classroom, children at the Exploration Station Pre-School step outside of the bricks-and-mortar classroom to tend to their very own garden. Through this garden, the students learn about environmental sustainability, how to care for plants and herbs, good nutrition and healthy eating habits. Children also begin to develop their writing skills by keeping personal lab journals devoted to the growth of the garden. Housing 100 children, from age 1 to pre-kindergarten, Exploration Station Pre-School also serves as a demonstration site for students pursuing degrees in early childhood education.
