“Tropical Green” is a two-day conference for architects, interior
designers, developers, city planners, politicians, educators and
voters in search of learning the ways of 21st century design. It
will explore how to build sustainably in Miami, South Florida, and
similar climates. Green building is the next wave of innovation,
investment opportunity and business creativity. Participants will
learn how Miami can ride this wave to achieve and sustain prosperity
in our region. Tropical Green will provide useful answers,
inspiration, and a blueprint for designing and furnishing modern
buildings in torrid zones.
OBJECTIVES:
As
a result of this workshop, participants will

Describe how quality of life is enhanced when responsible planning
and business creativity guide urban development.
2.
Explain the link between green industry and our region’s prosperity.
3.
List and describe some sustainable building guidelines that can
have a positive impact on urban growth and development.
4.
List and describe some successful solar energy, water use and water
treatment projects that have been initiated in our region
5.
Explain how the design of infrastructure can transform the way a
community perceives large scale service facilities.
6.
Explain strategies to improve interior air quality and occupant
comfort while lessening environmental impact by specifying green
products and practices.
7.
Explain how people can live with abundance and comfort in
energy-efficient solar homes.
8.
Describe green building strategies, such as siting, building form
and smart technology, that are especially suitable in a tropical
climate
9.
Explain how a site’s ecology and a building’s use of energy and
materials over its life-cycle can inform the design of a skyscraper.
