About Gear Up

GEAR UP is a federal grant that was awarded by the U.S. Department of Education in September of 2011 to the Miami Dade College’s College Readiness Institute. The purpose of this federal initiative is to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education.

  • Scholarships for eligible students

Currently we are serving all 9th graders attending to the following high schools:

  • North Miami Senior
  • Miami Edison Senior
  • Booker T. Washington Senior
  • Arthur & Polly Mays Conservatory of the Arts

Gear Up Goals

Increasing high school graduation and college-going rates among students from low-income families

  • Ensuring that middle and high school students and their families receive the information that they need to prepare academically and financially for postsecondary education
  • Assisting students from low-income families to enroll and succeed in postsecondary education by awarding scholarships to eligible students with financial need.
