The following services are common to all
MDC Libraries. Additional services and resources may be offered by
the individual campus libraries. Please visit the web site of each
library to learn more.
Reference and Information Services
Reference Librarians are available to provide assistance
with finding information, conducting research, and using the MDC Libraries'
resources and services. Click here
for Reference Desk phone numbers.
-
Library Instruction
The purpose of Library Instruction is to familiarize
students with the library, and to enable them to retrieve and evaluate
information from a variety of resources in a variety of formats. MDC
Faculty members may arrange to have a Reference Librarian conduct
instruction sessions for their classes.
-
Ask-a-Librarian

The MDC Libraries participate
in a statewide collaborative project called Ask-a-Librarian.
This "virtual reference" service offers the opportunity to communicate
with librarians via e-mail or live chat. The live chat component includes
a co-browsing feature that allows librarians to "escort" users to
various online resources. The service is available Monday through
Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from
10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Ask-a-Librarian is a joint project between
Florida's College Center for
Library Automation and the Tampa
Bay Library Consortium.
-
Intercollege/Interlibrary Loan
Materials not held by a particular MDC campus library
may be requested from another campus, or from another institution.
-
Reciprocal Borrowing
A valid MDC Card
may be used for borrowing privileges at the libraries of all community
colleges and publicly funded state
universities in Florida. In addition, the MDC Libraries participate
in the Southeast Florida Library Information Network (SEFLIN), and
have reciprocal arrangements with all SEFLIN
member libraries. A SEFLIN Library Card, issued at the borrower's
home institution, is required.
-
Remote Access to Information Resources
Off-campus access to the LINCC
Catalog is available to anyone with an Internet connection. Those
with a LINCC Account may log into
a variety of LINCCWeb
Databases to find articles and other kinds of information. Click
here for more information on LINCCWeb
Resources.
