Assists students in developing, evaluating, and implementing career decisions and plans.  Provides career advisement and career assessment.



Do you need Career Assessment?  Take an assessment test--a type of tool used in career counseling that can help you enhance your self-awareness.  They do this by clarifying values, identifying occupations that match personal interests, suggesting aptitude areas, and identifying abilities.  Assessment tests also can provide a measure of your career maturity, that is, how ready you are to undertake your career management.  The following are different assessment tests you can take.
  • SIGI PLUS - System of Interactive Guidance and Information PLUS):  SIGI PLUS helps individuals assess their work related values, interests, and skills and search for related occupations and college majors.  SIGI PLUS provides students and adults with a realistic view of the best educational and career options for their future success.
     
  • MYERS-BRIGGS TYPE INDICATOR (MBTI) - Personality Inventory.  Designed to equip students with the information they need to reflect on their own psychological type and to begin integrating that knowledge into their everyday lives.  Must call in advance to schedule an appointment.
     
  • FSTRONG INTEREST INVENTORY - Helps individuals plan for the many different steps along their career paths, with one goal in mind: to match their interests with satisfying careers. An essential resource for students who are exploring career options. Must call in advance to schedule an appointment.
     
  • FLORIDA E-CHOICES:  Career information system.  Through eCHOICES, you can assess and identify your interests, and match those interests with occupations within Florida.  The site also has extensive databases of occupations, colleges, universities, and graduate schools.  Available in the Career Resource Center Lab.
     
  • CHOICES 2003 - Choices opens a world of opportunities for students, helping them implement career plans with connections to schools, job banks, tools for writing resumes, practicing for interviews, and planning a career search. Please call in advance to schedule an appointment.
Do you need to learn more about a career? Use the following resources to assist you?
  • FERGUSON (Encyclopedia of Careers and Vocational Guidance):  Provides career information specifically suited to your interest, a compendium of more than 500 jobs, catalogued by title, industry, occupational category, school subjects, personal interests, educational requirements, and income levels.  Must call in advance to schedule an appointment.
     
  • OCCUPATIONAL OUTLOOK HANDBOOK:  Describes about 250 occupational areas or 85% of all jobs in the nation.  Is a nationally recognized source of career information, designed to provide valuable assistance to individuals making decisions about their future work lives.  Revised every two years, the Handbook describes what workers do on the job, working conditions, the training and education needed, earnings, and expected job prospects in a wide range of occupations.  A hardcopy is also available in the Center.
     
  • OTHER RESOURCES:  books, magazines, and videos are also available to assist you in your search.
