Global warming refers the average increase in temperature of the earth atmosphere and oceans.  Currently, the earth is experiencing rapid warming due to human activities such as the consumption of fossil fuels.  The burning of coal and oil releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere causing the greenhouse effect.  As the earth atmosphere fills with more of these gases, the planet retains more heat from the sun.  So what does this mean?  Scientists predict that the average temperature of the earth will continue to increase over time.  The rise in temperature will likely melt the polar ice caps, glaciers, and warm the oceans.  This would cause the ocean & volume to expand and raise the sea level causing severe flooding and devastation.  The consequences of global warming have become a priority to scientists.  Some of the world & leading scientists have demanded cooperation worldwide to counteract and solve the problems associated with global warming.
