Medical Assisting (Associate in Science)

Approximate Costs

As of August 2004, the cost of tuition is $49.80 per vocational credit for in-state students and $198.20 for out-of-state students. It is estimated that the 43 required credits for graduation will cost in-state students $2,142.00 and $285.00 fees. Students with out-of-state status will pay $8,523.00 and $ 285.00 fees. In addition, the approximate cost for books, laboratory fees and others is estimated as $1,025.00. Tuition is due at the beginning of each term and can be determined by multiplying the number of credits by the cost per credit hour.

Financial Aid

All students at the Medical Center Campus should apply for financial aid, which includes the Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Grant, Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Work Study, and Federal Subsidized loans. The Campus also offers emergency short-term loans and a variety of scholarships.

Application can be made in the Financial Aid Office (Room 1201) on the Medical Center Campus. Those who apply before April 1 st for the following academic year are given priority. Only courses in which students have registered before the 100 percent refund date qualify for financial aid. For additional information, call the Financial Aid personnel at 305-237-4160.

Successful completion of the MDC level two background check process or completion of a MDC nursing/health sciences program does not guarantee a graduate’s eligibility for participation in the professional credentialing process or for related employment. Credentialing agencies and health care employers may have additional eligibility criteria not required by an educational institution. Individuals who have been arrested or convicted of any felony crime during the last 15 years are strongly urged to inquire directly of the licensing board in the jurisdiction in which they intend to practice.
