CHILDREN & FAMILIES 20-HOUR INTRODUCTORY CHILD CARE TRAINING

Course Description/Outline

Required course for child care personnel:  The 40-hour training requirement consists of this basic 20-hour training, the new 10-hour course in behavioral observation and screening, and one of the 10-hour specialized trainings (infant-toddler, young child or preschooler, school-age children, or special needs.

The purpose of this training is to provide child care workers, in the State of Florida, with a basic understanding of rules, regulations, safety, nutrition, prevention of physical and sexual abuse, human growth, development and behavior as well as appropriate practices for working with all age groups within a child care setting.  The participant will gain knowledge and skills necessary to assist in the implementation of properly operated child care program.  This course must be started within 90 days of initial employment and must be completed within one year of the starting date of the twenty-hour course.

The 20-Hour Child Care Introductory Class consists of 10 topics.  Each topic is two hours.

Evaluation

Students evaluate the course by using the 20 Hour Introductory Child Care Training Evaluation

Make-up

Make-up forms must be completed by the student and signed by the trainer for any session missed.  A maximum of eight (8) hours may be missed for make-up.  If more hours are missed students must retake the entire course.
