What is a Search Engine?
A search engine allows you to find WWW (World Wide Web) pages or other material on the Internet. For instance, if you want to find information about hurricanes, you can type the word, click on a search button, and the search engine will return a list of Web pages that contain information about hurricanes. Your search results will depend on the type of search strategies the search engine allows. Please ask the Librarian if you need additional assistance.
A variety of search engines, directories and metasearch engines are available on the Web. They all have strengths and weaknesses, so it's a good idea to learn to use more than one.
