Medical Assisting (College Credit Certificate)

Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the Medical Assisting Program at the Medical Center Campus, you must meet these criteria:

  • You have applied to and been fully accepted for Admission or Readmission to vocational credit courses and programs at Miami Dade College. Designate the Medical Center Campus as your “preferred” campus and enter the following Pre-Select code for your preferred program: Medical Assisting – 53007

You may complete the MDC application online at http://www.mdc.edu, and request your transcripts from previous schools to be sent directly to MDC Medical Center Registration Office, located at 950 N.W 20 th Street Miami, FL 33127. You must have at least a high school diploma or GED certificate.

  • You should schedule an appointment with a vocational advisor at the New Student Center Advisement, 305-237-4141 in order to take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) through Testing Services, Room 1303, Medical Center Campus, 305-237-4275, or through Testing Services at any MDC Campus. Before being tested, do not forget to obtain Bursar Authorization form from the Admission Office or an advisor. In order to be eligible, you must submit your TABE scores to an advisor for admission to the program. You must score a minimum of 8 on all parts of the TABE prior to enrolling in the program and you must score at least 10 on all subjects (Maths, Reading, Languages) before program completion. Students who have earned an A.A degree or higher. Students who have passed the College Placement Test (CPT) on their first attempt are exempted from the TABE test.
  • Student must take HSC 0001 before or during the first semester. HSC 0001 is a prerequisite for externship.
  • Application for program selection to the Medical Assisting Program should include: your TABE results or proof of exemption from the TABE with possession of an AA degree or higher. Submit previously earned academic/technical healthcare certifications for course waiver consideration. Complete an application for program selection.

Selection Criteria

Completion of the above checklist alone does not guarantee acceptance into the program. Students are selected on a competitive basis.

Successful completion of the MDC level two background check process or completion of a MDC nursing/health sciences program does not guarantee a graduate’s eligibility for participation in the professional credentialing process or for related employment. Credentialing agencies and health care employers may have additional eligibility criteria not required by an educational institution. Individuals who have been arrested or convicted of any felony crime during the last 15 years are strongly urged to inquire directly of the licensing board in the jurisdiction in which they intend to practice.
