The Dual
Language Program is a premier initiative of The Honors
College at Miami Dade College. Located on the historic
InterAmerican Campus, the Dual Language Program is being
offered in response to recent studies showing bilingual
ability to be a major contributor to increased
cognitive, personal, and social development. Students
immersed in an academic program in both English and
Spanish will not only improve their proficiency in both
languages but also increase their marketability in the
workplace and expand the job opportunities available to
them in the future. This program was launched in 2006
with it's inaugural class graduating in May 2008.
The
program targets high-achieving students interested in
multiple careers. Enrolled students pursue an Associates
in Arts Degree majoring in subject areas offered at
Miami Dade College. Students wishing to pursue a degree
in Architecture, Art, Computer Animation, Graphic Design
or Commercial Art & Music should contact the Director of
the program, as certain course restrictions may apply.
In the Dual Language
Program, the majority of the faculty are bilingual in
English and Spanish. They are Latino or have lived and
studied in countries outside the United States. Students
demonstrate a respect and sensitivity to all the
different countries represented by studying and sharing
cultural experiences. Participation in study travel,
National Model United Nations, and other conferences,
along with academic presentations, cultural programming,
and visits to art galleries and concert venues, enhance
the awareness and appreciation of diverse cultures.
Further, students work in small, interactive learning
communities taught by professors who are experts in
their fields, and these cooperative learning groups
ensure collective cognizance.
Students
in the Dual Language Program are students of The Honors
College as such receive the Honors Fellows award in
addition to any other financial aid for which they may
qualify.
Graduates of the Dual
Language program have received official notification of
admission to some of the most prestigious universities

College, Cornell, the University of California at
Berkeley, Georgetown, George Washington University,
