Studying abroad prepares students to take their place in the world by teaching them cultural awareness and respect for individual differences. It also increases individuals’ self awareness of how they affect the world. The Honors College encourages its students to positively influence their environment, acting as forerunners and examples.
Annually students from The Honors College are invited to apply for and attend the Study Program (ISP) in Salzburg, Austria. Selected students attend a 10 day all expense trip where they along with students from the University of Salzburg, hear world-class professors lecture on topics such as “America and The World: Views From Abroad”; “Thinking Global, Acting Local”; “Constructing a World Order: 1945 to the Present”; and “A Citizenship Agenda for the Future.” The Salzburg experience provides students with an intensive curriculum in global education and an opportunity to view America through the eyes of others. Once students return, The Honors College organizes a college wide program featuring student presentations in order to share this perspective with other students and faculty. Now officially deemed Salzburg Seminar Alumni, each student prepares a reflection paper on this experience and participates in a series of presentations to other students about the Salzburg experiences.
Students of The Honors College have traveled to
other countries like Costa Rica, Italy, France. Below are
comments and accomplishments of Honor students who have
participated in study abroad.
Other study abroad opportunities exist like the
