EIE Educational Interpreter Evaluation
This is a local screening provided by the Florida Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
Together, the local school districts and the Florida Department of Education developed a code of ethics for Interpreters specifically working the field of education. There are three levels: 1, 2, 3.
QA Quality Assurance
This is the state of Florida Quality Assurance screening. It is also distributed by the Florida Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
At the College, EIE has long been recognized as the more valuable screening because it prepares interpreters specifically for educational rather than general public interpreting. Additionally, the EIE Code of Ethics recognizes the role of the interpreter as a member of an educational institution while the QA Code emphasizes the client-interpreter relationship.
C-Print is a computer-aided speech-to-print transcription system developed at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) as a support service option for some students who are deaf and hard of hearing in mainstream educational environments. A C-Print- trained captionist, using a laptop computer, inputs essential elements of the lecture or discussion occurring in a classroom setting or meeting. That input is viewed simultaneously on a laptop held by one student or a VGA (computer) monitor by more than one student who is deaf or hearing -impaired, providing an interactive environment for the learners/participants.
