DEGREE PROGRAMS
Students who complete the Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree program may transfer to any of the state university colleges of Education, including Miami Dade's School of Education Baccalaureate Programs, with junior level standing. Most private institutions will also grant A.A. degree holders the same status. Miami Dade College has articulation agreements with the 10 state universities in Florida, as well as universities in the Miami area, for students who earn their A.A. degree and pursue programs in teaching.

The Associate in Science (A.S.) degree will prepare students for immediate employment as early child care and educational professionals, paraprofessionals or substitute teachers in K-12 settings for both public and private school systems. The Child Development and Education program combines classroom instruction and field work experience with an emphasis on developmentally appropriate programming for young children. Within the program there is the option of earning a Child Development Associate Equivalency Certificate. This option is designed for those students who intend to seek immediate employment in the field. The requirements for the Florida Department of Children and Families Child Development Associate (CDA) Equivalency are included in the program. Students who complete the A.S. degree in Child Development and Education may also earn the A.A. degree in Teaching (Pre-Elementary/Early Childhood).

The Baccalaureate Degree in Education has been offered at Miami Dade College since the Fall of 2003. This Bachelor’s degree programs will prepare students to enter K-12 classrooms ready to teach.

Students may complete a State-approved program to be eligible for certification in Elementary Education (Grades K-6). Degree and certification requirements are subject to change in accordance with State mandates. The current program of studies includes both coursework and extensive field experience in elementary school settings to enable students to integrate theory with teaching practice. A professional portfolio that reflects a students' demonstration of the Accomplished Practices (APs) is a requirement for graduation.

  • Florida Child Care and Education Program Administrator Credential.
The specific degree requirements are listed on the Child Development and Education advisement sheet. Students completing the course requirements for this degree will also receive the Associate in Arts (AA) Degree in Pre-Teaching Elementary (Program 10802).
