ACCESS Disability Services provides assistance to students and prospective students who identify as having a disability. The American with Disabilities Act ADA defines disability as a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities of said individual, has a record of this impairment, or is regarded as having such an impairment.
In order to be eligible to receive ACCESS department services, a student must have a documented disability, which limits one or more of the major life activities of an individual. A student must present documentation from their attending physician, psychologist, learning disability specialist, previous academic institutions, or other agencies such as the Division of Blind Services or the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation stating the nature of their disability prior to receiving services form this department. If a student suspects that they may have a disability but have not been evaluated, the ACCESS Department will refer them to an agency that will evaluate them and provide them with the proper documentation needed. An evaluation referral list is available at the ACCESS Department. Each student is responsible for requesting services on a semester basis as needed.
