REPORTING ACCIDENTS
Miami Dade College InterAmerican Campus encourages victims and witnesses to report all incidents to the Public Safety Department immediately, regardless of their nature. It is important that all crimes occurring on campus be reported promptly to ensure that appropriate action(s) can be taken. Crimes occurring on campus should be reported to the Public Safety Department. Crimes occurring off campus should be reported to the local law enforcement agency having jurisdiction over the location of the incident. Generally this would be the city police of your local area or the Miami-Dade County Police Department for incidents occurring in the unincorporated portions of the county. Emergencies are best reported using the 9-1-1 system. Non-emergencies are best reported through the business phone numbers for the agencies involved.

The Interamerican Campus Public Safety Department has the primary jurisdiction and responsibility for non-criminal investigation. The City of Miami Police Department will handle all follow up investigations of non-criminal incidents and all criminal investigations.

EMERGENCIES
Any Police/Fire/Medical emergency can be reported utilizing a variety of methods, including: the 9-1-1 system, and by walking in to the Public Safety Department office in room 1123.

9-1-1
When using the 9-1-1 system you must remember certain guidelines. When using an interoffice phone you must dial 9-9 first prior to making an emergency call. If you use a regular phone or a public phone you may dial 9-1-1 directly. If you choose to call the emergency system directly, please call the Public Safety dispatcher to inform of the call so that officers can be alerted and assist the emergency unit to arrive quickly at the location needed.

EMERGENCY CALL BOXES
Emergency Call Boxes are located in a number of places around campus. Call boxes are found in the main parking garage. The Call Boxes are silver and have a blue light glowing above them. These phone are connected to the Public Safety Department dispatcher and are coded so that the phone is identified automatically to the dispatcher when the phone is used.

To use the system:

  • Follow the instructions on the box.
  • Press the red button to automatically dial Public Safety Department. Once the button is pushed the location of the call box is identified to the Public Safety Department dispatcher.
  • Ask the dispatcher for whatever assistance you require.
  • If, for some reason, you are unable to talk with the dispatcher, an officer will be sent to check things out.

WALKING IN
The Public Safety Department station is located on the East side of the Flag Atrium in the main building area in room 1123. The office is open 24-hours per day, 365 days per year. You can report any situation directly to the Public Safety Department office by calling (305) 237-6100 or 7-6100 if calling within the College phone system
