The mission of the Miami Dade College School of Education is to educate, prepare, and train students to meet and exceed the standards of excellence for the profession. The School of Education is student-centered and will prepare educators with the content knowledge, skills, attitudes, philosophy and behaviors required for teaching excellence. The School will impact the educational community at the local, state, and national levels by graduating outstanding students, being responsive to student and community needs and by providing professional leadership.The main purpose of the School of Education is to provide education and professional development opportunities that not only meet but exceed standards of excellence for the teaching profession. The SOE fosters high academic standards, addresses issues of diversity, promotes technological literacy, engages in scientific inquiry, and maintains collaborative partnerships to develop educational professionals who value life-long learning.

The School of Education at Miami Dade College engages faculty, staff, students, and professional partners as a community of learners to prepare classroom teachers and educational leaders for the diverse and technologically-evolving 21st century. The School of Education is committed to preparing traditional and non-traditional students to become educators who:

  • Are responsive to the diverse needs and abilities of their students and community;
  • Become accomplished users of effective instructional and class management strategies that are founded upon appropriate human development/learning concepts, curricular standards, and goals;
  • Collect and use data to accommodate student needs and differences to promote learning;
  • Are competent in their subject area specialization and the incorporation of contemporary technology to enhance teaching
  • Are effective communicators as well as developers of critical and creative thinkers;
  • Uphold high academic and professional standards;
  • Become advocates for learners, their school, and community; and
  • Are engaged in self-reflection and continued personal and professional development.
