| Rosa Parks Day: Anniversary of Arrest | |
| Dec.1, 1955. Anniversary of the arrest of Rosa Parks, at Montgomery, AL, for refusing to give up her seat and move to the back of a municipal bus. Her arrest triggered a yearlong boycott of the city bus system and led to legal actions which ended racial segregation in municipal buses throughout the southern US. Dec. 1 – 7. The purpose of this week is to promote the importance of tolerance among human beings as a means of reducing bigotry and prejudice toward those of a different religion, race or creed. |

| United Nations: World AIDS Day | |
Dec. 1. In 1988 the World Health Organization of the united Nations declared Dec. 1 as World AIDS Day, an international day of awareness and education about AIDS. The WHO is the leader in global direction and coordination of AIDS prevention, control, research and education. A program called UN-AIDS was created to bring together the skills and expertise of the World Bank, UNDP, UNESCO, UNICEF, UNFPA and the WHO to strengthen and expand national capacities to respond to the pandemic www.un.org |
