HOURS OF OPERATION


 MondayThursday:
8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
 Friday:
8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday:10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

 
CIRCULATION DESK
All students, Faculty, staff, and community users must present a valid photo ID in order to use the Library.

Front desk personnel will keep all users’ attendance upon entering the Library.

Children under 13 must not be left unattended and will not be allowed to sit at any computer.
   The library staff cannot assume responsibility for supervision of unaccompanied children.

BOOKS
Books will circulate for twenty-one days, a one-time twenty-one day renewal option. After this time punitive actions will go into effect. Reference books including dictionaries and encyclopedias do not circulate.

VIDEOTAPES, CD'S, AND DVD'S
Videotapes, CD’s and DVD’s only circulate for  two or three days and are not renewable.

Journals do not circulate.

MAGAZINES
Magazines circulate for three days.

LOST OR DAMAGED MATERIALS

If an item is lost or damaged the Library should be contacted immediately.

All borrowers including faculty and staff who have damaged or lost an item are subject to charges according to the value of the item. The replacement choice will be given to the patron. The same title and edition will be expected at the time of replacement. If the same edition is no longer in print it should be replaced with the latest edition available.

PHOTOCOPIES

A photocopier is available for library users at a charge of 10 cents per page. Library staff is not responsible for making the copies or returning money due to machine malfunction.
Faculty should use the photocopier available to them on the third floor.

COPYRIGHT RESTRICIONS
The copyright law that governs photocopies or other reproductions from library materials including CD’s and DVD’s should be observed at all times.

Downloading music from the Internet is against copyright law.

A copy of the law is available at the Circulation Desk.

FOOD OR DRINKS
Neither eating nor drinking is allowed in the library at any time.

SEFLIN CARD
Students from other colleges or universities that want to check out books may only use their card as a member of SEFLIN. The Circulation staff member will verify the information. A record will be open for the semester in the MDC Library system and a photocopy of their card, picture ID and cover of the book will be made as well. A note will be added to the record stating that they own a SEFLIN card.

The Library also provides the SEFLIN card to MDC students and faculty for them in order to use the libraries at other academic institutions. They must be active in the library system in order to receive the SEFLIN card. The Circulation Supervisor from Monday through Friday will sign the issued card from Monday through Friday.

INTERLIBRARY LOAN SERVICES

Interlibrary loan services are available to all students, faculty and staff from Monday through Friday during regular LIBRARY hours. Books received through interlibrary loan cannot be renewed. Videos and any other media materials should be requested through the Media department. Journal articles are available from other institutions through this service. The usual turnaround time for interlibrary loan requests is five working days. The patron should be active in the Library system in order to use this service.

DISRUPTIONS

Disruption to the study and research of patrons or the interruption of their education process is prohibited: Examples are listed below.

  Creating excessive noise

  Harassment of others

  Behavior that disturbs users or staff and interferes with use of the facility

SMOKING
Smoking or other use of tobacco is prohibited within the facility.

RADIOS, CD PLAYERS, CELL PHONES OR OTHER EQUIPMENT

The use of any equipment that disrupts patrons is prohibited. Beepers and cellular phones must be placed on vibrating mode or turned off. The use of cellular phones in public areas of the library is prohibited. The use of video cameras requires the permission of the library administration.

The use of staff equipment by patrons is prohibited.

LOITERING, SOLICITING AND ADVERTISING

Loitering and soliciting for donations from patrons or staff for any purpose that is prohibited. Non-MDC advertising materials may not be displayed or distributed without permission from the Library Administration. No materials may be affixed to library interior or exterior walls without permission from the Library Administrative Office.

Persons who are unwilling to abide by this policy will be asked to leave the facility.
