SELECTION PROCEDURES
The InterAmerican Campus Library shall follow the mission statement and selection procedures set forth in the Collection Development Policy of the Miami-Dade College Libraries.
Detailed analysis of the circulation statistics at this campus, initially and on an ongoing (monthly) basis, can aid in providing the collection developer with an indicator of what subjects are heavily used. Selections should emphasize these subject areas.
In addition, it is recommended that a Subject Gaps page be kept at the reference desk, to record areas that are weak or absent in the collection.

Materials considered for acquisition may come from the following sources:

1. Suggestions made by faculty, staff, or any library user.

2. Materials reviewed in the library literature, publishing media, reputable online sources, journals, etc.

3. Catalogs from various publishers, vendors, etc.

McNAUGHTON GUIDELINES
Because funds for purchasing books and audiotapes from this vendor are relatively limited, the following priorities should be observed:

1. For nonfiction books, titles which are deemed to have either lasting relevance to the collection, or high topical merit have priority.

2. For fiction books, titles with literary merit, or those supporting one of the educational missions of the college, should be given first consideration.

3. For audio tapes (at this time, we should not yet collect audio CD’s due to lack of budget in this area): unabridged tape titles that have either a print version available to be ordered, or one already in the library collection, should be selected first. This is due to student requests for both a book and an audio tape of the same title.

SERIALS
Like other materials, serials should be selected to support programs emphasized at the InterAmerican Campus. Because of limited space in the library, and ever-increasing availability of online full-text titles, the most studied consideration should be given to what serial titles should be subscribed to and/or retained.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Collection Development Librarian at InterAmerican Campus will have responsibility for selections made, weeding, etc., taking full account of input from colleagues and Faculty, and students, and subject to approval by the Library Director.

ORDERING
Ordering should be done in accordance with the size of the budget/monies available in a given year.

PROCESSING
Most print materials are received from Baker and Taylor completely processed. The only step to be done at the library is linking them to the catalog.

Journals are processed at the library as well as continuations, standing orders, McNaughton titles, videos, and donations.

The collection development librarian will keep his colleagues (especially those involved with processing) informed of what materials are currently on order
