PowerPoint Presentations in a Nutshell

  1. The number of PPT presentations within a Learning Object (LO) will correspond to the number of lectures (teaching points) in the LO.

  1. Please include all material from the lectures in your PPT presentations. Do not include the pre/post tests and activities.  The latter are being programmed separately.  Read those for useful tips and ideas in your presentations.

  1. Feel free to expand the Teacher Talk and examples. The examples on a single slide should be thematically related, e.g.

Railway telegraphy was one of the most important inventions of the late 19th century.

And:

The invention of the telephone improved communications. - CAN be on one slide

But:

The invention of the telephone improved communications.

And:

Dinosaurs are an extinct species. – will CLASH on a single slide.

Do not include examples of political or religious nature, current war news or anything that is culturally biased.  Let me know if you come across such sentences and we will change them.

  1. The Teacher Talk should be appropriate to the level and less formal than the paper version.  Include a welcome / opening line to focus the students’ attention.  Don’t forget to include a closing line reminding students to proceed with the activities.

  1. Write everything you plan to say in the narration in the notes section of the PPT.  Please remember that the narration should correspond to your notes.

  1. Don’t rush to the recording studio yet.  You might get new ideas that you would like to include in the narration.  The recordings could be done in two or three sessions towards the second half of the semester.  Before you record, make sure your sound settings are on CD quality (top left menu).

  1. You may record at the studio in Media Services, which is available upon request, or any other quiet place.

  1. PPT design suggestions:

  1. The authorized animation sites for our project are:

  1. All PPTs and multimedia elements from one LO should be saved in a single folder labeled the same way as the LO,  e.g. MCL604lec1 stands for Marcia Cassidy developed the PPT for lecture one in LO 4, level 6.  That way we would know where to plug in this particular PPT presentation.  Include the level and LO number on the first slide of the presentation.

  1. Save all your work in your H drive and copy the final versions of your PPTs in the respective folder bearing your name in the 1Impatica FIPSE folder in the Kforlang drive which you all have access to.

  1. We will Impaticize the narrated PPTs when we are fully satisfied with our presentations.  The new Impatica version, which supports animation and sounds, is available college-wide and can be downloaded at:

Thank you and

Good luck!
