Newly Registered Students
Students that carefully plan their semester succeed in their classes. We have seen this correlation time and again. The formula is very simple. Listed below, are some steps and tips that will help you achieve success in your studies. Following them will make a difference.

STEP 1
Visit the Independent Studies Download Center and download the Course Syllabus*, Professors' Schedule of Hours, Course Booklist, and Additional Materials.
STEP 2
Meet the instructor the first week of the term during the scheduled days and times indicated in the Professors' Schedule of Hours.

*The course syllabus is only available online or directly from your instructor.


  • Get a head start. Download all relevant materials for the course from the Download Center well ahead of the commencement of the semester.
  • Read the Course Syllabus. All the information you will need to successfully complete the course is in the Course Syllabus.
  • Read the Professors' Schedule of Hours. Ask your professor often if there have been schedule changes.
  • Organize the Course Syllabus, Professors' Schedule of Hours and other pertinant materials in your binder. Refer to them often.
  • Purchase your book before class begins.
  • Manage your time. Plan your studying and examination in anticipation of test deadline dates.
  • Use all available resources. Some courses provide additional materials such as Study Guides and extra credit assignments.
  • Avoid taking tests during deadline weeks.
  • Some of our courses are taught by multiple instructors. Ask your instructor who else is teaching the course.
  • Arrive no later than one hour before the instructor is scheduled to leave.
