Who may use the Kendall Campus Library?
All Miami Dade College libraries are open to the public, but borrowing
privileges are limited to patrons in the following categories:

How do I get a library card?
| Your library card is your MDC Card,
which is activated each semester when you register for classes. Your card is
required for borrowing library materials. If you have not yet obtained your
MDC Card, visit the Kendall Campus

How many items can I borrow?
You may have up to 15 items checked out at a time.

Can the materials I've borrowed be renewed? Can I renew them online?

Circulating books may be renewed twice if no one else has requested them.

Overdue items may not be renewed.

Audiovisual materials may not be renewed.
Renewals may be completed in person, by phone (305-237-2291), or by
logging into your
LINCCWeb Account
(Borrower ID = MDC student number; PIN = last 4 digits of
MDC student number).

Can I get a list of the books I have checked out?
You can visit the Circulation Desk or log into your
LINCCWeb Account
(Borrower ID = MDC student number; PIN = last 4 digits of
MDC student number) to get a list of the items
that are currently checked out to you. Once an item is
returned to the library, it is removed from your account, so it is
not possible to get a list of all the items you've checked out in
the past.

I can't register for classes or get my official
transcripts because of a "library hold." What does this mean, and what can
I do about it?
A library hold usually means you have failed to return an item
that has been checked out to your account. You must return the item,
pay for it, or replace it with another copy in order to have the
hold removed. You are responsible for all items checked out to your
account. Contact the Circulation/Reserve Desk at (305) 237-2291 for
assistance with resolving library holds.

What do I have to do to use a computer in the Kendall Campus
Library? Can I use my own laptop?
A MyMDC Account is required to log into a computer workstation. (If you have not
yet created your MyMDC Account, click here.) For non-MDC patrons, a temporary
guest account may be issued with proper photo ID.
If you have your own laptop, you can connect to the library's wireless network. A MyMDC Account is required.

What's the difference between my
LINCCWeb Account and
my MyMDC Account?
You can log into your
LINCCWeb Account to see what library materials are
currently checked out to you, renew your
books online, and view any outstanding
library obligations. Your LINCCWeb Borrower ID is your
MDC student number, and your
PIN (unless you change it) is the last 4 digits of your MDC student
number.
Your Borrower ID and PIN are also used for gaining access to the
LINCCWeb Databases
to find articles and other information.
Your LINCCWeb Account should not be
confused with your MyMDC Account, which is
the account you create for yourself that
allows you to use computers on campus,
register for classes online, print your
schedule, view your grades, etc. If you have
not yet created your MyMDC Account, click

Can I donate materials to the Kendall Campus Library? Can I recommend materials for the
library to purchase?
Book donations may be made by contacting
Barbara Joy at (305) 237-2072,
or
Helena Gomez at (305) 237-2298. A written
acknowledgement will be provided for tax purposes, but will not include a monetary appraisal. Each donation is reviewed by a librarian, and added to the
collection if deemed appropriate.
Recommendations for the purchase of new materials may be made by
contacting
Barbara Joy at (305) 237-2072,
or
Helena Gomez at (305) 237-2298. Items will
be purchased if they are determined by a librarian to be appropriate additions
to the collection, and if sufficient funds are available.

How do I find articles?
You can find magazine, journal, and newspaper
articles by visiting the Kendall Campus Library's
Find Articles page. There you will find a
list of electronic databases, many of which include the full text of articles and other kinds of
information.
A convenient way to find articles, periodical indexes, and various
online reference tools is through the LINCCWeb Databases. Your
Borrower ID for logging into the LINCCWeb Databases is your MDC student
number. Your PIN (unless you change it) is the last 4 digits of your MDC student number.

Can I do my library research from home?
Yes. Anyone with an Internet connection can search for library materials
in the
LINCC Catalog.
You can also connect to the databases listed on the Kendall Campus Library's
Find Articles page, but the appropriate login is
required. Click

Does the library have copies of the textbooks for my classes?
The Kendall Campus Library normally does not purchase the textbooks used in Miami Dade College classes.
(See Section VII of the College-wide Library Collection Development Policy.)If an instructor wishes, he or she may place copies of textbooks on reserve at the Library's Circulation/Reserve Desk. Your instructor will let you know if there are materials on reserve for your class. (If you are a faculty member and would like to place materials on reserve, click here for more information.)

Can I read entire books online?
Books that can be read in their entirety online are known as electronic books, or ebooks.
Due to copyright restrictions, few books published recently or during the 20th century are available for free on the
Internet. However, MDC students and employees may gain free access to subscription-based ebook
collections via the LINCCWeb Databases. For information on logging into these resources, as well as a link to ebook collections that are freely

Does the library have videos?
The library holds a small collection of popular videos, DVDs, and audiobooks on
CD. These materials may be borrowed for seven days. iPods containing
selections of jazz, classical music, and audiobooks are also available for
check-out. (Click
here for more information about the library's
iPods.)
The
Kendall Campus Media Services Department offers a Video On
Demand service that allows students to view videos on computer
workstations in the library or
Computer Courtyard. Students
assigned by their instructor to view a copyrighted video must
provide proof of registration for the course.
Faculty members who wish to use video streaming in the classroom or add a video to the
Digital Media Library may visit the
Media Services web site or call (305) 237-2191.

What is LINCCWeb?
LINCCWeb is a powerful research tool that provides 24/7 access to
a variety of information resources. Your Borrower ID for logging into LINCCWeb is your
MDC student
number. Your PIN (unless you change it) is the last 4
digits of your MDC student number.
LINCCWeb consists of:
- The
LINCC Catalog, which includes the
holdings of the MDC libraries and all the libraries in Florida's
Community College System.
You do not have to be logged into LINCCWeb to search the
LINCC Catalog, but logging in allows you to
use some of the catalog's additional features, such as placing
online requests for materials from other institutions.
- A variety of LINCCWeb Databases,
many offering full text content from journals, magazines, newspapers, and
other types of information resources.
- Your
LINCCWeb Account, which allows you to see what library materials are currently
checked out to you, renew your books online, and view any outstanding
library obligations.

What is Ask-a-Librarian?
The Miami Dade College Libraries participate in a statewide collaborative
project called Ask-a-Librarian.
This free "virtual reference" service offers the opportunity to communicate with
librarians via e-mail or live chat. The live chat component (which operates
Sunday through Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to midnight, and Friday and Saturday
from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) includes a
co-browsing feature that allows librarians to "escort" users to various online
resources. Ask-a-Librarian is a joint project between Florida's
College Center
for Library Automation and the Tampa Bay Library Consortium.

What if I can't find what I need in the
library?
Books or articles that are not owned by the Kendall Campus Library may be
obtained from other campuses or institutions via Interlibrary
Loan (ILL). MDC students or employees may visit the Reference and
Information Services Desk or call (305)
237-2077 or (305) 237-2292 for assistance with placing ILL
requests.
