Biographical Information:
Vellisse P. Grimes is an Associate Professor of Psychology and Student Life Skills at Miami Dade College.  She earned her Bachelor in Science degree from The Florida State University in psychology and child development.  Professor Grimes pursued her Masters and Ph.D. (ABD) from Nova Southeastern University in clinical psychology. Her research interests include the treatment of impulse control disorders, medical treatment compliance and childhood sexual abuse, which led to her pre-doctoral clinical internship at Harvard Medical School in Boston.  She was on staff at Children’s Hospital and The Judge Baker Children’s Center when she was named a Schwartz Fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital, intended for health care professionals to provide compassionate health care to their patients.

Stuart K. Williams is an Assistant Professor of Sociology in the Social Sciences Department at Miami Dade College, Kendall Campus.  He is currently a doctoral student at The New School for Social Research, The New School, New York City and received a Masters Degree from both The New School and Florida International University.  His undergraduate degree is in International Relations from Florida International University. His areas of interest and research include: the sociology of culture, the sociology of fashion, domination in capitalism, global health and global poverty and inequality and violence against women; and utilizing art, photography, literature and various art/media forms to illuminate the complexities of social life. 
Stuart serves as faculty advisor to Phi Theta Kappa and Students Aiding International Development.  In both capacities, he has served as faculty mentor to students and coordinator for the All-Nighter for Haiti events in 2009 and 2010 (an awareness and fundraising event), garnering approximately $50,000 or more for the development of sustainable food sources, in conjunction with the non-profit Food For The Poor. In 2012, he has also mentored students in the development and execution of HER Concert for Congo, inspiring students to raise $28,000 to construct a safe house for women and children in Congo, in partnership with the non-profit Heal African Haiti.  Stuart also works with students to develop commitment proposals addressing global challenges for submission to the Clinton Global Initiative University. He also served as a facilitator at the 2009 Clinton Global Initiative University. Stuart is dedicated to facilitating the development of students to become leaders and agents of change today, for a better tomorrow.  In this regard, he works intimately with students to strategize and utilize multiple media forms to market and solve social problems.  Stuart has dedicated his life to the alleviation of human suffering and to transform the lives of those who have suffered from both the perils of man and nature.  He is committed to transforming our collective existence for the better.
