| PROJECT
SUMMARY: |
The project consists
of the development of 12 handbooks for student-instructors.
These guidebooks are to be utilized by student-instructors
when teaching ESL students topics in Business and Computer
Information Technology and applicable terminology in English.
The purpose of creating these handbooks is to assist the student-instructor
in preparing their lesson plan as well as to maintain content
uniformity among the workshops. The specific areas covered are:
Management, Marketing, Accounting I, Accounting II, Income Taxes,
Etiquette and Social Responsibility, How to Register and obtain
Grades on the Web, How to navigate through the web, Getting to
know the hardware, Basic word processing skills, Hands on exercises
and Excel and Computer and Concepts Terminology.
Each handbook has been divided into ten main sections: introduction,
student-instructor’s responsibilities, objectives, content
material, exercises, glossary, answers to the exercises, evaluation
forms, references and bibliography. Student instructors are provided
with a copy of each handbook two weeks before the actual workshop
begins. They have the responsibility of working together to analyze
the material provided and of creating their own class presentation
plan.
The handbooks were finished and tested during the fall term.
As each guidebook was being completed, it was given to the student-instructors
to be used in their preparation of the fall workshops. The student-
instructors were then provided with an evaluation form for each
handbook to examine its usefulness. Also, after the evaluation
forms were collected, an oral discussion about the usefulness
and effectiveness of the handbooks was conducted to determine
if there were any other recommendations that could enhance the
product.
