ABSTRACT: This is a proposal to write student and faculty manuals for the Virtual Midwifery Practices Program that is currently being developed and to add streaming video for 6 of the client interviews to enhance the program.
PROJECT SUMMARY:

There were two parts to this project.
Part One was to create, video and add 6 video interviews to the virtual midwifery practices practice. These were completed by May 2003. Several of them were used this summer in a Nursing Class with very good feedback from other instructors and students.

Part Two was to create two manuals. One of these was for students and one for faculty. The student manual has 55 pages and includes general instructions on how to participate in the project, examples of materials the student is expected to produce and copies of chart forms the student will need in the project.

The faculty manual has 115 pages and includes all of what is in the student manual (written for the instructor) and complete outlines of each of the 18 cases, guidelines for the on call experiences and special student response forms for student feedback.

The manuals were written by Diann Gregory, edited by Justine Clegg and reviewed by Marta Lopez to evaluate their clarity from the standpoint of an instructor who has midwifery background, but who had not participated in creation of the initial project.

PROJECT RESULTS:

Manuals send by inter office mail. The videos can be viewed within the program. Diann would be happy to arrange a showing anytime.
The project was shared at the 2003 convocation on the medical center campus.

PLANS FOR DISSEMINATION: This project along with the initial material produced in the first project will be demonstrated at the League for Innovation Conference in October 2003 in Milwaukee Wisconsin and again at the American College of Nurse Midwives in May of 2004 in New Orleans.

Diann also shares it with faculty on medical center campus on an ongoing basis. Dental Hygiene is currently trying to see how they could produce a similar program for their students and is looking forward to submitting a grant for the next round.
