Miami Dade College

We, the students and faculty of Miami Dade College, establish a covenant this day, October 19, 2007, to work together to achieve the Miami Dade College Learning Outcomes, and to build a foundation for the success of future students.

We acknowledge that liberal learning is essential to a free society and that the Miami Dade College Learning Outcomes hold the promise of guiding principles and practices that lead to empowered, informed and responsible citizens.

We, the students, accept our responsibility to become intentional learners and promise to engage actively and continually in preparation and study, and to articulate these learning outcomes in our lives and work.

We, the faculty, accept our obligations as teachers and mentors to design engaging coursework, programs and activities that intentionally address the learning outcomes and actively engage students.

Collectively, we - Miami Dade College students and faculty - pledge ourselves to the development of knowledge, skills, and attitudes that foster effective citizenship and life-long learning.

Toward that end, we accept our shared responsibility to accomplish learning that will enable Miami Dade College graduates to:

• Communicate effectively using listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
• Use quantitative analytical skills to evaluate and process numerical data.
• Solve problems using critical and creative thinking and scientific reasoning.
• Formulate strategies to locate, evaluate, and apply information.
• Demonstrate knowledge of diverse cultures, including global and historical perspectives.
• Create strategies that can be used to fulfill personal, civic, and social responsibilities.
• Demonstrate knowledge of ethical thinking and its application to issues in society.
• Use computer and emerging technologies effectively.
• Demonstrate an appreciation for aesthetics and creative activities.
• Describe how natural systems function and recognize the impact of humans on the environment.
