Members of the Miami Dade College emergency preparedness team continue to monitor the progress of Hurricane Ike. Based on the latest information from the National Weather Service and Miami-Dade County,  all Miami Dade College Campuses will remain fully operational for Monday, September 8th. Preparing for Hurricane Ike

Members of the Miami Dade College emergency preparedness team are monitoring the progress of Hurricane Ike. College personnel will continue to coordinate with the National Weather Service and Miami-Dade County to evaluate Hurricane Ike’s potential impact to South Florida. All Miami Dade College Campuses are fully operational at this time. For the latest information from the National Hurricane Center, please click the map icon on the right. Enhancements to MDC Alerts

In an effort to maximize the effectiveness of Miami Dade College Alerts, the College implemented the enhancements listed below as of Wednesday, August 27th, 2008. These enhancements require all users who subscribed to Miami Dade College Alerts before Wednesday, August 27th, 2008 to reenter their emergency notification information by clicking the appropriate link on the right. Users who subscribed to Miami Dade College Alerts before Wednesday, August 27th, 2008 will have until Tuesday, September 30th, 2008 to complete this process. Additional information can be found on the Miami Dade College Alerts frequently asked questions page or you can email questions to mdcalerts@mdc.edu.

• All current students and employees are required to participate. All Miami Dade College issued e-mail addresses (username@mymdc.net or username@mdc.edu) have been downloaded into the Miami Dade College Alerts database.
• Students and employees will receive alerts only during those terms when they are registered for class or employed by the college.
• Students and employees will be able to confirm or update their emergency notification information for Miami Dade College Alerts at anytime by clicking the appropriate link above. Students and employees need their Miami Dade College user name and password to access their information.
• Students will be requested to confirm or update their emergency notification information for Miami Dade College Alerts at least once a year during the online registration process for classes.
• Employees will be requested to confirm or update their emergency notification information for Miami Dade College Alerts at least once a year during the employee computer login process.
• Family members and visitors are still able to subscribe to Miami Dade College Alerts by clicking the appropriate link above. A Miami Dade College user name and password is not required to access this link. Subscriptions for family members and visitors will be valid for the current academic year only and will expire on July 31, 2009.

Preparing for Hurricane Ike

Members of Miami Dade College's emergency preparedness team are readying the College for the potential impact of Hurricane Ike. Please visit MDC Alerts and confirm that your contact information is up to date, and if you have not already registered, please do so immediately. Please take this time to review emergency workplace plans and finalize storm preparations at home. In fact, use this weekend to put personal hurricane plans in place.

While we fully anticipate that the College will be open on Monday, the emergency preparedness team will convene throughout the weekend and will expeditiously inform the college community regarding special instructions or changes to the status of operations. Essential personnel should consult with their supervisors as to reporting.

Updates regarding the status of College operations will be distributed via the following vehicles:

• MDC Hotline: 305-237-7500.
• MDC Employee Hotline: 305-237-7505.
• MDC Alerts: Registered users will receive an alert from the College's new wireless emergency notification system when there are recommended protective actions or a change in normally scheduled College operations. 
• MDC Home page: www.mdc.edu.
• Local media: Postings regarding College closing and reopening information and other important news will be communicated to the major media.

Because of the uncertainty surrounding the track of Hurricane Ike, please exercise caution when traveling. Please also check the College hotlines and Web site over the weekend.
