Latin Builders Pledge $50,000 Gift
Latin Builders Association (LBA) – the largest Hispanic construction association in the U.S. – recently announced a new fiscal and educational partnership with Miami Dade College. On behalf of the association, former LBA president, MDC Foundation board member and MDC alumnus, Augusto J. “Gus” Gil, presented the College with a pledge of $50,000.
The donation will be used to establish and endow the Latin Builders Association Scholarship Fund. In addition, the donation is eligible for state matched funds that would bring the total of the gift amount to $100,000.
Osvaldo Vento Jr., the current LBA president, and Anthony Seijas, a member of its board, were also in attendance at the check presentation.
“Mr. Gil and his colleagues are shining examples of generosity, civic responsibility and professionalism,” said MDC President Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón. “We thank them for this donation which will go a long way in opening the doors of higher education to so many in our community who need it.”
Recipients will be known as the Latin Builders Association Scholars and will be chosen principally on the basis of academic performance or potential and financial need.
LBA is a nonprofit that encompasses a vast array of individuals and companies related to South Florida’s vibrant construction industry. Since its establishment, LBA has embodied the interests of builders, developers, contractors, architects, engineers, plumbers, electricians and tradesmen associated with the business of construction, striving to provide a vital forum for discussion, networking, training/development and representation at the local and state level.
The fund will support an established tenet of the mission of LBA, “to engage in charitable activities that benefit our community.”
