Alumni Who Protect and Serve
The Miami-Dade County state attorney and public defender aren't the only College alumni looking out for the interests of South Florida residents. Their fellow MDC Sharks are well-represented in all levels municipal, county, state and federal government and law enforcement.
A little more than a year ago, the College took a survey of its alumni to identify who was serving in public office. The most prominent among those graduates were included in a special edition of the college periodical, MDC magazine.
Though some terms have ended and some individuals have retired, MDC alumni are still well represented among the most prominent civic leaders in our county.
The Office of the Mayor – at both city and county hall – are occupied by alumni of the college. The same is true for the role of top cop. Miami-Dade County and Miami Beach police departments are each led by men who were first trained at a Miami Dade College campus.
If we were to include every college graduate serving in a leadership role in the judiciary, public safety or elected office, they wouldn't fit on the page.
Instead, we offer a snapshot. Future editions of College Forum will feature the personal stories of the men and women of the alumni body who protect and serve in various capacities.
