Chess tourney draws top high school talent
Some of the region’s top high school chess players competed in the Fifth Annual Dr. Armando J. Bucelo Sr. High School Chess Tournament at Miami Dade College.
Seventy players from 14 high schools in Miami-Dade County competed. The top prize went to the team from MDC’s School for Advanced Studies. Last year’s winner, Mater Academy, came in second, with Miami High and Hialeah High taking third and fourth places, respectively.
In attendance were Coral Gables attorney and MDC Trustee Armando Bucelo Jr., and his father, chess master Armando Bucelo Sr., the tournament’s namesake.
