Leaders convene to officially kick off college’s 1960 Society
Miami Dade College (MDC) alumni and business leaders recently convened for an intimate reception for MDC’s 1960 Society. Dr. Penny Shaffer, chair of the MDC Foundation Board of Directors and market president of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, and Sheldon Anderson, immediate past chair of the MDC Foundation and southern region president and CEO for Northern Trust, hosted the gathering at the Viceroy Miami.
The purpose of the evening was to introduce guests to MDC’s 1960 Society, which was launched in 2009 to recognize donors who make an annual contribution of $1,000 or more to the college’s Foundation. The funds raised are used for programs that directly support student learning. Guests mingled with members of MDC’s Foundation Board and MDC’s District Board of Trustees. During the program, José Rohaidy shared his experiences as a student in the acclaimed Honors College at MDC, and, Louis Wolfson III, a longtime member of the MDC Foundation Board of Directors, shared the vision of his late grandfather, Mitchell Wolfson Sr., who was a founder of the college 50 years ago. This event and others like it aim to continue reconnecting the community with the nation’s largest institution of higher education.
