Singer and MDC North Campus alum, Alvin Jackson, was one of several local artists who performed during the Fourth Annual Gospel Explosion and Soul Food Fest, held at the college's North Campus in observance of Black History Month. A gifted musician who's readying for the upcoming release of his debut solo project, Jackson’s soulful rendition of popular gospel tunes sent the crowd to their feet, followed by the rhythmic and touching expressions of dance by the Deity Praise Dancers.
One of the most popular cultural events at the North Campus, this year’s event drew hundreds of spectators who captured the inspirational performances of local choirs, solo singers and praise dancers from throughout the tri-county area. Other performers included: Unspeakable Joy, the Greater Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church Young Adult Choir and the Faithful Few Singers, who have been singing together for more than 40 years including a performance at the historic Apollo Theater in New York City. The event wrapped with a free serving of soul food cuisine, courtesy of local restaurants and food donors.
