Homestead celebrates city officials

On March 12, 2010, Miami Dade College’s President Dr. Eduardo Padrón and Homestead Campus President Dr. Jeanne F. Jacobs hosted a reception at the Homestead Campus for newly elected and re-elected officials in the cities of Homestead and Florida City. Elected officials and community leaders joined College leaders, students, faculty and staff in welcoming the new public officials as the Homestead Campus celebrates its 20th Anniversary. Honorees in attendance were, from the City of Florida City, Mayor Otis T. Wallace, Vice Mayor Eugene D. Berry, and city commissioners Sharon Butler and R.S. Shiver, and from the City of Homestead, Vice Mayor Judy Waldman and councilpersons Jon Burgess, Elvis R. Maldonado, Stephen R. Shelley and Jimmie L. Williams III. Dr. Padrón and Dr. Jacobs presented gifts to each of the honorees on behalf of the College.

The students of Homestead Campus also awarded each city government with a plaque naming the honored guests as Honorary Students for the Day, and the faculty presented Mayor Wallace and Vice Mayor Waldman with an artistic photograph of the campus for their respective city halls. The city leaders pledged their continued support for MDC, Homestead Campus, and renewed their commitment to the important partnership with the College to improve the lives of students and citizens.
