Robert Battle to Lead Alvin Ailey
New World School of the Arts alumnus Robert Battle has been named the next artistic director to lead the world-famous Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
Since its inception in 1958, the prestigious company, which is based in New York, has performed for more than 20 million people in 48 states and in 71 countries on six continents.
The 37-year-old Battle, also an alumnus of The Julliard School, is a Miami native who was honored by the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in 2005 as one of the "Masters of African-American Choreography."
Battle takes on his role as the company’s third artistic director in July 2011.
