Miami Culinary Institute Opens in Grand Style

The inaugural ceremony of MDC's Miami Culinary Institute (MCI) recently brought a cornucopia of delights to Miami. Dozens of culinary stars and hundreds of local and international dignitaries attended the opening of the new state-of-the-art, green MCI facilities at Wolfson Campus. Notable speakers included City of Miami Mayor Tomás P. Regalado and members of MCI's distinguished Chef's Council. Entertainment included a performance by the Hialeah-Miami Lakes High School glee club dressed in chef garb, a street party with stilt performers and the lifting of the curtain – or, in this case, the giant apron – revealing MCI's beautiful, glass façade. Guests were treated to a feast of flavors as they toured the Institute's eight floors, beginning with champagne and hors d'oeuvres in the café on the first floor and ending with a sinful dessert buffet in the four-star restaurant on the eighth floor.

“There was no warm-up; we stepped right into the fire,” said John Richards, MCI's director and chef, who served as master of ceremonies for the event. “That's what we chefs do – we can stand the heat.”
