Longtime community activist and MDC nursing professor Dr. Marie Etienne was recently honored for her professional accomplishments and commitment to helping others by the Haitian Women of Miami, or Fan Ayisyen Nan Miyami (FANM), at its 18th annual Spirit of Justice Gala.
Etienne also was recognized by the Haitian American Nurses Association for being “a highly accomplished woman, an excellent educator and clinician, a champion and a leader in the nursing industry.”
“I feel that I was born to serve others because of the passion I have for people,”
Etienne said.
Etienne also received a certificate of
appreciation from Miami Mayor Tomás Regalado for her contribution to the South Florida community and special recognition for her work in aiding the victims of Haiti’s earthquake.
“Recognition is nice but not necessary,” said Etienne. “What really matters to me is for the people I have served to be satisfied with the care that I provide to them.”
