MDC an Integral Part of Public Servant’s Career
![]() Genaro “Chip” Iglesias |
Whether handling a burning building or a budget crisis, MDC alumnus Genaro “Chip” Iglesias has been on the front lines of public service in Miami-Dade County for three decades. Iglesias began his career as a firefighter with the City of Miami, working his way up the ladder to become Captain, and later took on executive positions in municipal government. And now his most recent appointment is as Chief of Staff/Deputy
Mayor to Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Giménez.
“Miami Dade College afforded me the opportunity to begin my college education, upon high school graduation, with a soccer athletic scholarship,” Iglesias said. “After one year, a career opportunity in the fire service changed my plans, but MDC remained a part of my continuing studies with paramedic certification and eventually an Associate of Science in Fire Science Technology. MDC is very much a part of my success, and I am one more person who has benefitted from this marvelous institution. I am MDC.”
