Top Professors Garner NISOD Awards
For half a century, Miami Dade College faculty have been repeatedly honored with top national awards for their teaching excellence. One of the most recent distinctions took place at the International Conference on Teaching & Leadership in Austin, Texas, where eight MDC professors were recognized by the prestigious National Institute for Staff & Organizational Development (NISOD).
Since 1978, NISOD has been working toward the continued improvement of teaching and learning, with the ultimate goal of student success. With more than 700 member colleges across the globe, the Institute is dedicated to the professional development of faculty, administrators and staff. These prestigious annual awards honor some of the most outstanding educators from institutions both in the United States and around the world.
MDC professors receiving the 2012 NISOD Excellence Award are:
- Dr. Miriam Frances Abety, Associate Professor Sr. of Natural and Social Sciences
- Nora Dawkins, Associate Professor Sr. of EAP and Foreign Languages
- Lourdes España, Associate Professor Sr. of Mathematics
- Ece Karayalcin, Professor of Film and Television
- Magdalena Lamarre, Professor of Arts and Sciences
- Juan Miguel Morata, Professor of Natural Sciences, Health and Wellness
- Elena Pérez-Mirabal, Associate Professor Sr. of English and Communications
- Dr. Lenora Yates, Department Chair of Generic Nursing
