MDC Cultural Endeavors Expand at Koubek Center

MDC’s Koubek Center
MDC’s Koubek Center is quickly becoming the College’s locus for the exploration and celebration of the myriad cultures that thrive in South Florida.

A historic and cultural landmark in Miami, MDC’s Koubek Center is swiftly becoming the College’s locus for the exploration and celebration of the myriad cultures that thrive throughout South Florida.

Since its adoption into the College’s family of iconic buildings, which includes the National Historic Landmark Freedom Tower in Downtown Miami and Tower Theater in Little Havana, efforts have centered on Koubek’s revitalization, both physical and programmatic, while remaining true to its heritage and location.

Expanding the Reach

“This historic space allows MDC to complement its already diverse and compelling programming with additional offerings that are both vibrant and culturally relevant, and to reach even more sectors of the community, especially with our Spanish-language events and classes,” said Alina Interián, executive director of Miami Dade College’s Cultural Affairs.

The arts have come alive at Koubek with the installation of its ArtSpace gallery, BookCorner bookstore and classrooms, as well as the Koubek Theater, two mini performance spaces, gardens and more.

Encouraging Dialogue

Workshops, art exhibitions, theater and music performances, literary readings and more will take place this year, many in partnership with other organizations, as well as with the consulates of the many countries represented in Miami’s multicultural population. Koubek Center’s roster of multidisciplinary events and programs is following through on its mission – highlighting our community’s cultural expressions and encouraging dialogue.

The Koubek Center offers programming, noncredit classes and workshops in English and Spanish, and plans call for an after-school theater program for children that will help them discover the world of acting and using song and dance while also improving their Spanish language skills.
