Center of the Literary Universe

Miami Book Fair International is gearing up to celebrate three decades of literary bliss at MDC’s Wolfson Campus in Downtown Miami this November 17-24.

Hundreds of thousands are expected at the 30th edition of the nation’s finest and largest literary gathering presented by The Center for Literature and Theatre @ MDC. With hundreds of authors and book vendors, live performances, cultural presentations and other activities for book lovers of all ages, there will be plenty to enjoy during the eight action-packed days.

Some of the world’s most popular writers are scheduled to make appearances this year, including best-selling authors Dan Brown and Amy Tan; Academy Award-winning actress and director Anjelica Huston; MSNBC news anchor and political commentator Chris Matthews; civil rights icon and Georgia Congressman John Lewis; 2013 Inaugural Poet and MDC alumnus Richard Blanco; novelist Andre Dubus III; actress and author Diane Ladd; essayist and poet Robert Pinsky; and novelist Pat Conroy; among many others.

A Preview of Things to Come

This year’s Fair will feature an exciting run-up of events as part of the “On the Road to the 30th” celebration. “As we prepare for the Book Fair’s 30th anniversary, we want to provide a small preview of this year’s diverse, relevant and thought-provoking program,” said Alina Interián, executive director of Cultural Affairs at MDC.

Comprising lectures, master classes and presentations by local and international authors, this series of pre-Fair events starting this month includes visits by best-selling authors Nicholas Sparks  and Salman Rushdie; British novelist and Bridget Jones creator Helen Fielding; American essayist, memoirist and Eat, Pray, Love author Elizabeth Gilbert; and noted Bolivian author Edmundo Paz-Soldán, just to name a few – all part of the perfect prelude to one of Miami’s flagship cultural happenings.

Learn From the Masters

For aspiring writers, The Center also will be presenting its esteemed Miami Writers Institute from Nov. 20-22 during the Fair. Three-day workshops in both English and Spanish will cover a variety of topics by renowned writers, including poet Adrian Castro, best-selling author Esmeralda Santiago discussing fiction writing and Lauren Oliver sharing her expertise on writing for the young adult market.
