A Toast to Democracy’s College

Aptly known far and wide as Democracy’s College, Miami Dade College was awarded Florida Campus Compact’s Democracy Cup in recognition of its multiple efforts to boost civic engagement among students and the community at large in the nation’s most recent election year.

Mostly spearheaded by MDC’s Institute for Civic Engagement and Democracy, the hands-on, college-wide initiatives that led to MDC receiving this honor encouraged voter participation through energetic campus rallies and even facilitated the voting process for thousands by enabling them, at computers installed on all eight campus, to request ballots by mail and receive reminders about upcoming elections through the online service TurboVote.
