Nurturing the Spirit of Entrepreneurship

MDC’s Carrie P. Meek Entrepreneurial Education Center was one of five institutions around the country selected to host the National Association of Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE) regional summits to focus attention on the many ways community colleges contribute to the entrepreneurial vitality of the regions that they serve.

Focusing on Growing the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem and featuring several distinguished speakers from nationally recognized companies and institutions, the conference united entrepreneurs, faculty, students, administrators, funders/philanthropists, bankers and entrepreneurship support organizations throughout South Florida. It also kicked off 2013 Global Entrepreneurship Week events at the Meek Center, which is a major outreach center of Miami Dade College’s North Campus.

“We have been members of the NACCE since its inception and were delighted to partner with them on initiating regional conversations on this very important topic,” said North Campus President Malou C. Harrison. “We have a highly charged group of faculty and administrators throughout our academic and student services departments. They are dedicated to fostering an entrepreneurial culture throughout all of our curricular and co-curricular activities. In addition, we invite our community partners into our work in meaningful ways by becoming coaches, mentors and advisors to our student entrepreneurs. Our slogan for this effort is ‘Entrepreneurship is Everyone’s Business.’ ”
