Making Their Mark

Great News on the Home Front

The Reporter
One of the award-winning issues of 'The Reporter'

MDC’s The Reporter has been named the top community college student newspaper in Florida for the fourth consecutive year.

The Reporter staff took home awards in an impressive 11 of 18 individual categories – including seven first-place prizes – at the recent Florida College System Publications Association banquet in Boca Raton. The paper has won 59 awards from the FCSPA in the past four years, including 35 first-place honors.

In addition to placing first overall in general excellence, the paper won individual first place honors for News Story, Feature Story, Sports Writing, News Photo, Design, Photo Story and Arts Review.

The Reporter has proven, since its inception, to continuously be the best community college newspaper in the state, a feat that I imagine the paper will continue long after my departure,” said Mark Pulaski, the paper’s editor-in-chief.

This year’s competition was based on newspapers printed during the 2013-14 school year. The Reporter features 16 pages, prints on a biweekly schedule, has a circulation of 10,250 per print cycle, and is supplemented by a website with video and audio content. It is distributed at all MDC campuses and has newsrooms at North, Wolfson and Kendall campuses.
