Racking Up Accolades

MDC's 'The Reporter' newspaper received the Pacemaker Award from the Annual Associated Collegiate Press/College Media Association National College Media Convention.

For the second year in a row, The Reporter newspaper at MDC received the coveted Pacemaker Award from the Annual Associated Collegiate Press/College Media Association National College Media Convention in Philadelphia.

Winners were selected on the strength of coverage and content, quality of writing and reporting, opinion page leadership, evidence of in-depth reporting, design, photography, art and graphics.

The honor comes on the heels of another important achievement for The Reporter – being named the top state college newspaper in Florida. This high-profile recognition is part of a long string of successes the paper and its alumni have enjoyed in recent years.

Besides the second Pacemaker award, The Reporter has won 59 awards from the Florida College System Publications Association in the past four years, including 35 first-place honors.

Current students from the paper and recent alumni have either interned or been hired at The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Dallas Morning News, The Seattle Times, Miami Herald, El Nuevo Herald and Sun-Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale.
