MDC softball players with girls
Four MDC softball players helped lead a skills clinic for young girls during their trip to Utah for nationals.

A Home-Run Experience

In the midst of competing at the 2015 NJCAA Division 1 Softball National Championship tournament last month in St. George, Utah, members of MDC’s Lady Sharks softball team found time to give back to the community by helping teach the next generation of players during a pre-tournament clinic.

More than 100 girls had the opportunity to further develop their skills through interaction and instruction from the MDC players. Milena Calixto, Amber Plaza, Tayla Da Silva and Erin Sundook spent a few hours with the girls, who ranged in age from 6-10, teaching them softball fundamentals including base running, pitching, hitting and catching. The MDC players coached alongside Amanda Freed, a member of the 2004 United States Olympic gold medal-winning softball team, who made a special appearance.
