MDC/Harvard Program Trains Grads for Tech Industry

The Idea Center at MDC has partnered with Harvard University and LaunchCode, a national nonprofit that helps prepare students for in-demand jobs in the tech industry, to provide MDC students with access to CS50xMiami, a free, 16-week course in computer programming based on Harvard’s introductory computer science course.

For MDC students, the program could lead to apprenticeships, paid training and ultimately full-time jobs at hundreds of partner companies across the country. The first cohort was so successful that the program is expanding to North and Homestead campuses.

CS50xMiami graduate Ivan Corchado was the first of many of his MDC peers to land a computer programming job. He was hired by Zendo, a Fort Lauderdale-based technology startup. Harvard Professor and CS50x instructor David Malan congratulated Corchado on his achievement and expects many more success stories as a result of CS50xMiami at Miami Dade College.
