Cultural Spotlight

A Global Point of View

International perspectives on places and people are front and center in exhibitions at MDC’s Galleries of Art + Design this spring.

Cityscapes become the subject of artistic expression in the hands of Colombian artist Juan Raúl Hoyos, whose works are on view at MDC’s Kendall Gallery through March 11 in Architectural Playground, an exhibition curated by Aluna Curatorial Collective. The exhibition includes paintings, installations and sculptures that convey the architectural uniformity of urban landscapes.

Architectural and fine art photographer Carlos Domenech’s images of buildings from around the world have been published widely in major magazines, including Architectural Digest and Casa Vogue Spain. Selected Works, on view through March 11 at Centre Gallery, gives viewers an opportunity to look at the world from interesting angles.

Works by mixed-media artist María Fernanda Lairet put a spin on paper currency in Fusion, on display at West Gallery through April 17. Featuring alterations to the money of various countries, Lairet’s work touches on major political, economic and social themes of each nation.
