MDC Board Chair Honored by State

Award-winning journalist and MDC Board Chair Helen Aguirre Ferré recently was inducted into Florida Women’s Hall of Fame.

Award-winning bilingual journalist and communications consultant Helen Aguirre Ferré, who serves as chair of MDC’s Board of Trustees, recently was inducted into Florida Women’s Hall of Fame, which was created in 1982 by the Florida Legislature to honor women who have made significant contributions to the improvement of life for all citizens in the state.

Aguirre Ferré, who has served on MDC’s board since 1999, has worked to maintain the highest academic standards while making college affordability a top priority. She has been the face of public affairs programming at PBS affiliate WPBT2, hosting Issues and launching the investigative series Issues Reports. She also has been a regular guest on national programs including PBS NewsHour, CNN Headline News and Univision’s Al Punto, among others. In print media, she was a weekly columnist for Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald.
